London, ON review
On Feb 20th, my girlfriend and I attended Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage 50th Anniversary Concert Tour at Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario—and it was incredible! The Czech National Symphony Orchestra was amazing! I don’t normally listen to classical or orchestra music, however, I grew up watching Star Trek, have loved it all my life, and have always enjoyed the scores. Life’s stresses just seemed to melt away as I sat there listening, and a calm peacefulness came over me. My girlfriend is not the Star Trek fan I am yet she loved the concert, too.
Along with the orchestra, there was a big screen that was running scenes from all generations of Star Trek, narrated by Michael Dorn. They took the time to bring attention to some of the big moments in the Star Trek universe, such as the fight to the death between Kirk and Spock and the destruction of the Defiant in the first moments of the war with the Dominion. One of the biggest cliffhangers in Star Trek was from the episode “Best of Both Worlds” where we are left between seasons with Riker ordering to fire on the Borg cube after Picard’s introduction as Locutus, and it was the perfect ending to the first act.
Star Trek fan or not, I highly recommend seeing this show, it is an amazing experience! I wish I could see it again!
