Toronto, ON Review
I had the pleasure of attending Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto on February 26. Action, suspense, drama, The Czech National Orchestra, and conductor Nicholas Buc brought Star Trek back to life in an evening of the musical exploration that fans have come to know and love.
The stage was brilliantly set with a huge projection screen, surrounded by a million stars, as the orchestra seemed ready to set course to the sheer adventure of space travel aboard the Enterprise. The audience, a mix of movie fans and music fans, were not disappointed as the evening unfolded in a way for everyone to appreciate the magic, music, and memories of some of cinema’s greatest scores.
The music stands on its own, yet it is forever tied in our imaginations to film and television, and the Czech National Orchestra gave everyone an opportunity to connect to every note they played. I can’t think of a better definition of a great evening. This concert is truly a delight to behold and a must-see for any Star Trek fan or music enthusiast. It is a celebration of the music that has influenced what audiences have felt—truly a celebration of all the themes of science fiction’s most important and enduring franchise.
